Bud’s Louisiana Café

Lover of Cajun food that I am, I cannot believe that it took me this long to try Bud’s. Located in an out-of-the-way business park, Bud’s doesn’t look like much at all from the outside. In fact, it looks like little more than a sandwich shop to cater to the 9-5 crowd Monday through Friday. However, the food tells a much different story.

I had to try the gumbo. I love, love good gumbo, and besides making it myself, I just haven’t found a good spot for it locally. My husband went with the seafood bisque. My word! These soups were delicious! The gumbo was nice and spicy, fresh, and not too thick. The bisque was heavenly, with a velvety texture and perfectly salty flavor.

For our lunches, we ordered the Cajun Jambalaya and Mardi Gras pasta, both of which are big enough to share. And each entrée comes with a Caesar salad! How quaint! Remember when restaurants did that? Don’t answer that.

The Jambalaya was excellent. Nice and spicy, but not overly so, with a freshly made andouille sausage on top (or you can choose a chicken breast if the sausage isn’t your thing). The rice was fluffy and not at all greasy. The pasta was nice and creamy, a perfect accompaniment to the creamy soup, with big chunks of shrimp and crawfish. Just a hint of spiciness, so this dish might be best for those who aren’t huge fans of spicy.

Finally, dessert! The day that we went, there was a special bananas foster crème brulee, which I just had to order! Heaven, heaven! So sweet and decadent, a caramel brown sugar layer of crust and bananas sat atop a rich pillow of creamy custard. I really hope that they make this dessert a regular feature (then again, maybe not – it was so good!).

Can’t wait to go back!
