Crazee Burger

A friend requested that I review some more inexpensive restaurants, and since I’m on a burger kick, I can happily oblige. In my quest to try another recommendation for a great burger, I found myself at Crazee Burger in North Park. Despite its association with Guy Fieri (sorry, I can't stand that dude), I thought it might still be worthwhile.

Crazee Burger is something of a North Park institution, mainly because they offer many variations on one menu item – burgers – at reasonable prices, along with the quintessential selection of craft beers. The atmosphere is extremely laid back, almost divey, in that hipster sort of way. But much like at the other hipster places in San Diego, the staff at Crazee Burger are plenty friendly. This is my kind of place!

The menu is crazy (har dee har)! All sorts of burgers are offered – plain ol’ cheeseburgers, organic beef, buffalo, ostrich, gator, kangaroo (!). How many different animals can I eat here? They also have veggie burgers and turkey burgers, for those who oppose eating red meat or meat at all! Upon hearing that they did not have duck burgers (the tragedy!), I consoled myself with being boring and ordering a cheeseburger. Next time, I think that I have to try that kangaroo burger.

Paired with a happy hour porter (my favorite beer), the burger with some parmesan-dusted fries was perfection. Blissful, burger and beer perfection. Juicy, flavorful, and thick, the burger was highlighted by fresh vegetables and a soft bun (not fresh-baked, but for $6, what do you expect?).

This place exceeded my expectations, and gives you the full dive burger experience, without the greasy, yucky burgers usually served at burger dives. A winner in my book. I can’t wait to return and work my way through eating the entire animal kingdom!
