On the Border

This blog is primarily focused on events and restaurants central to San Diego and surrounding areas, but sometimes I like to feature a place that everyone can enjoy. One of those places is On the Border, which has stores nationwide. I’d never been, and when we found ourselves in Mission Valley and hungry, we decided to see what On the Border had to offer.

We were greeted very promptly, and before we opened our menus, we were served freshly made tortilla chips and salsa. Yummy! My favorite part of eating at Mexican restaurants is the chips and salsa! This salsa had a spicy-sweet tang to it, and was very well blended, so that it was easy to dip the chips!

Since they are famous for their margaritas, we decided to indulge. I love strawberry margaritas, so we ordered one of these plus the swirl, which is strawberry and traditional margaritas swirled together. Delicious! Check out how huge they are! Definitely a nice treat at a Saturday lunch.

For an appetizer, we decided to give their fresh guacamole a try. It’s made right at the table using fresh avocados and mix-ins, so it’s to die for! I love fresh guacamole, so this was a winner!

For our meals, we were recommended the Achiote chicken tacos, which feature grilled chicken, pineapple chunks, and radishes for crunch. So good! I love the addition of pineapple into savory foods, and these tacos were so fresh and delicious! Served with a side of beans and rice, this dish was perfection.

We also ordered the ultimate fajitas, which featured steak, grilled chicken, shrimp, and carnitas cooked to perfection and served sizzling. This dish also featured sides of rice and beans, as well as grilled zucchini, red peppers, and onions. It’s nice that you can assemble the fajitas and create the taste that you want, and I liked the selection of fillings.

I would definitely go back, and it’s nice that this restaurant can be found everywhere!
