Brunch and Liquid Sundays at Kelvin



Easing into a Sunday morning, I can think of no better place to start the end of my weekend than brunch at the lovely W hotel, at the even more amazing restaurant, Kelvin.

I've had a couple of great experiences at Kelvin. The food is exquisite, and the decor is stimulating and relaxing all at once, with the gorgeous blues and oranges. This time was just as splendid, but going for brunch was a special kind of treat. It is incredibly nice to be pampered first thing in the morning!

First things first: coffee. The coffee here was, like everything else, perfect, with a small thermos pitcher on the table for quick refills and warmers.

The menu is a nice blend of classic brunch entrees with both breakfast and lunch items. The lunch items were intriguing, with pork carnitas panini and duck confit quesadilla among the offerings. However, I always choose breakfast when I go to brunch, so I decided to order the eggs benedict, served in classic style with an English muffin and hollandaise sauce. I always want something sweet as well, so we also chose the tempting almond crusted cinnamon roll French toast!




While we were waiting for our food, we ordered two of their delicious mimosas. Very tasty, made with fresh-squeezed OJ!


The benedict was amazing! The slice of avocado (recommended by our wonderful server) as well as Canadian bacon really pulled it over the top! It was quite a filling meal, with a generous helping of fried potatoes, and two large poached eggs.








The star of the meal, however, was the French toast! In my opinion, brunch just isn't the same without some kind of decadent sweet dish. My goodness, this was good, with a blueberry sauce and the cinnamon hints throughout. The texture was wonderful, nice and firm and not mushy (I hate over-soaked French toast). I would order this again and again for a sweet treat at breakfast!






After breakfast, we headed up to the deck for Liquid Sundays! Liquid Sundays is an all-day happy hour of sorts, with specials on bellinis and a build-your-own Bloody Mary bar! What could be better than sitting on the gorgeous deck, in gorgeous San Diego weather, sipping delicious cocktails? I can't think of anything.

 My dining companion is not a fan of tomato juice, so he went for the Cosmopolitan bellini. It was so light and yummy. The easiest drink to have on a Sunday afternoon!
 I, on the other hand, love bloody marys, but I hate making decisions, so I panicked and simply got the signature bloody mary. It was a good choice! The signature includes a mixture of premium vodka, homemade bloody mary mix, and crushed blackberries! The combination of sweet and salty was incredible! And the garnish was excellent as well: a bite of spicy bacon, a jalapeno, and cucumber! 

I was brave enough by this time to try the build your own, but I think that I'll save that for next time. And I will be heading back for another round of the delicious drinks and food!
