National French Fry Week

Whether you call them chips, spuds or pommes frites, everyone loves a good french fry. From fast food to fine dining and available in almost every country, the french fry has crisscrossed the globe and shows up on menus in a variety of ways. This seriously palatable version of the potato takes center stage for National French Fry Week. Stop into any of these San Diego eateries and celebrate with a spudtacular dish.


No longer a just a side dish or a plate-filler, barleymash offers up a whole slew of french fry-themed entrees, known as “Iron Fries.” Piles of golden fries are loaded with fresh and flavorful toppings. For some local flare, try the San Diego. It’s topped with stout braised short ribs, pepper jack beer-cheese sauce, sour cream, guacamole, salsa fresca and fresh chopped chilis.

Headed to Pacific Beach? Try Dirty Birds and order up a culinary concoction called the Chicken Enchilada Fries. These south-of-the-border style fries start with a generous mound of seasoned fries layered with chopped chicken tossed in enchilada sauce, smothered with shredded jack cheese and finished with a crowning dollop of sour cream.

The InSlider may be known for their delectable gourmet sliders, but it’s their savory “slidekicks” that set them apart. Dive into delicious with a batch of this food truck’s top-seller, the Sweet Potato Tots. A beloved cousin of the potato, the sweet potato, makes for a great tot with the perfect combination of sweet and salty. Kick it up a notch with a side of chipotle dipping sauce.

Viva Bar + Kitchen
Make your way to the Gaslamp Quarter for a little Latin flare at ViVa Bar + Kitchen. Paying homage to a taco shop staple, the Papas Fritas and Carne combines grilled steak, avocado, creama and tomato atop a bed of french fries.

Forget fast food. Uptown Tavern is keeping it classy in Hillcrest. Sample their sophisticated spuds with an order of the White Truffle Fries. Kennebec potatoes are flavored with savory white truffle and parmesan cheese and served alongside classic house made ketchup and creamy bleu cheese dressing.
