There's a new kid in town in the San Diego brewpub scene. Located in central La Jolla on Fay Avenue, the La Jolla Brewing Company is busily serving up their very own brews, along with a tasty menu and guest beers from other local breweries.
The new place has been open only a couple of months, but already seems to be a hit with the local crowd. When we arrived on a Thursday evening, the dining area and bar were both quite full.
Eager to try their beers, we started with the Nitro, which was an ale very similar to a Boddington's. It was excellent, with a nice body, and very smooth. The other beer tried (sadly not pictured) was the stout, which was amazing! Nice coffee flavors, and a very smooth delivery.
For an appetizer, we chose the crab and artichoke cheese dip. Served hot, this dip was a decadent take on the spinach/artichoke dips so beloved in restaurants. The crab added some depth, and the cheesy dip was perfect on the garlic toasts.
Beers and burgers go together too well, so one of our entree choices was a classic bacon cheeseburger. The burger was nice and thick, with two very respectable slabs of bacon pressed into the cheese, all served on a ciabatta bun. The delicious homemade potato chips made this burger a real winner!
As an additional side, we chose the small mac n' cheese, which was perfect and comforting. A hint of jalapeno made this classic dish something new and special.
