Sangria Season is Here!

With the weather so hot and humid (I thought I moved away from this stuff when I headed West!), I thought I'd share a few Sangria spots and a recipe with readers, courtesy of spanking new Vom Fass of Hillcrest. It's a delicious way to cool off and chill out for summer!

The more the merrier in Hillcrest with Uptown Tavern’s Fish Bowls! Put any of their signature cocktails in a bowl for just $35. Order the All Day Long, with Skyy citrus, lemon, honey, strawberry puree and champagne and keep the party going! Split a Backseat Driver of Skyy vanilla bean vodka, OJ and peach bitters, or “Pack a Mule” in a punch bowl for a customized afternoon kick. Drinking out of a fish bowl will never feel so sophisticated!

Table side punch bowls are at the ready at Pacific Beach’s Duck Dive! With enough to satisfy four to six people, these big beverages will have you and your group buzzing in no time. Try the Sucker Punch, a mix of Jameson Irish whiskey, ginger beer, Domaine Ste. Michelle Brut, orange bitters, fresh lemon, simple syrup, orange, fresh beet juice and blood orange. Get tropical with the Jack Talk Thai, taking Bacardi pineapple fusion, Yellow Tail sparkling wine, cherry bitters, pineapple and fresh OJ for a fun afternoon. Come in Saturday and Sunday from 3 to 9 p.m. and its “Lights Out” with a buy one, get one free punch bowl deal.

Take that special someone to Coronado and dine at Shima Japanese Steakhouse. Along with their entertaining Teppanyaki style experience, you can split the Skyline Punch Bowl for Two. With Bacardi rum, Coconut rum, sake, Grenadine and Pineapple juice, this punch bowl mixes up the perfect combination for a cocktail made to be shared.

Punch bowls aren't only reserved for restaurants. Hillcrest’s gourmet grocery store, VOM FASS, offers a variety of spirits you can take home and use to create your own multi person cocktail. Start the party off right and choose from their selection of brandy, whiskey, liqueurs, rum, absinthe, and grappa and make a unique creation. Try their Summer Sangria recipe, and make a fruit drink perfect for cooling your friends down on a hot summer day!
